Lt. Col. Charles D. Gaines began life as a farm boy born near the small town community of Herman Nebraska on October 21, 1933. He graduated from Beatrice High in South Eastern Nebraska and went on to graduate from the Air Force Aviation Cadet program in March of 1955. Col. Gaines holds three flight ratings, Pilot, Navigator and Bombardier, and has logged over 20,000 flying hours. Much of his flying career he served in the Strategic Air Command where he piloted the B-47 and the KC-135 aircraft. He served five tours of duty in Vietnam during which he flew 300 combat missions in several different airplanes. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Bronze Star Medal, the Air Medal with 5 oak leaf clusters and several other distinguished service medals during his military service. He retired from the Air Force in 1973 to serve as the CFO of a national brokerage firm and five years later founded STI, Solar Tech International Inc. He was the founding Pastor of two Churches in California and has served as an ordained Pastor for more than 20 years. He and his wife Lois have been married 51 years. They have three children and nine grand children who all currently reside in Northern California.
